Entry for the "Avatar Gallery Icon Contest". The challenge is to create a visual representation of what an avater means to you.
According to "Wikipedia", an avatar is "All avatars used on Internet forums serve the purpose of representing a user and his/her actions, personalizing their additions to the forum, and may represent different parts of their persona or social status in the forum"
So basically I feel an avatar is a part of your personality, personified in a small picture, for others to see. An identity.
I used the silhouette effect (used most commonly with the image of a vase) in this to create the illusion of a person in the middle with a heart (representing personality and identity). But if you look closer you can see two faces opposite each other. From this perspective, the heart symbolises communication between two people - which suggests a forum.
It's quite complex.. but it is so hard to fit so much into 16 x 16 px
